Janai Purnima festival celebrated in Nepal
Kathmandu August 5
Janai Purniama festival is being celebrated wearing new sacred thread through out Nepal today. On the occasion of Janai Purnima festival which is also called "Raktchya Bandan", most of the Nepali Hindus visit near by temples or rivers to take bath and worship with out eating food. After the worship "pooja", there, in the temples or rivers side they wear the sacred thread "Janai" offered by the Hindu priest. They offer money or present to the priest. After wearing Janai they can have food. Changing of Sacred Thread is performed on Janai Purnima day. Old Sacred Thread is removed and new sacred thread is worn on this day.
Many Hindu Pilgrims and worshipers visited Pashupathinath in Kathmandu, the biggest temple of God Shiva and celebrated this festival today. Pashupatinath was crowed with pilgrims, who go to wear Janai and priest, who offer Janai to them since early in this morning. Children, teenagers, youth and old people all aged people visited this temple and celebrated this festival . I reached Pashupathinath early in the morning and worn sacred thread and started to take photos for Demotix.
