Greek Tragedy 'Oedipus Rex' in Nepal
Nepali Performers are performing the Greek tragedy 'Oedipus Rex' by Sophocles in the Nepali Theater, Gurukul. The play Oedipus Rex has been staged many times across the globe, and the charm and legacy of King Oedipus lives on. This is perhaps the third time that the play has been performed in Nepal. The play has been localised brilliantly, with dialogues that include Nepali proverbs such as Jun Goruko Singh Chaina Uskai Naam Tikhe and costumes displaying Nepali fabric and colours. Sunil Pokharel’s direction had many colors to describe. His choices of lighting, his ideas of presenting the costumes and his approach to presenting the drama, with a Nepali touch, is really fascinating.
